In collaboration with Synaflow
Delivered collaboratively by qualified BJJ coach and Speech Pathologists, the program provides an inclusive, movement-based environment where participants can practise their individual communication and social goals through teamwork, physical activity and real-life interactions.
The program focuses on:
- Following instructions and developing receptive language skills.
- Expressing wants, needs and preferences.
- Developing assertiveness and self-advocacy.
- Turn-taking, waiting and collaborating with peers.
- Understanding personal boundaries and respecting others.
- Developing emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.
- Supporting communication across different social situations.
Breathing Protocol and Self-Regulation
An integral component of our BJJ program is our structured Breathing Protocol, delivered by a trained Speech Pathologist which provides participants with opportunities to develop breathing awareness, body awareness and self-regulation skills.
Following the physical component of BJJ, participants are guided through breathing activities and regulation strategies in a supportive group environment.
The Breathing Protocol focuses on:
- Developing awareness of breathing patterns and body sensations.
- Exploring controlled breathing techniques.
- Recognising physical and emotional responses to different situations.
- Supporting transitions between physical activity and rest.
- Developing strategies to support emotional and physiological regulation.
- Encouraging the use of learned regulation strategies in everyday environments.
Our program integrates physical activity, communication therapy and breathing-based regulation strategies to provide a holistic approach to supporting each participant's individual goals.
